Nintendo has shifted the release date for its highly anticipated live-action The Legend of Zelda movie to April 30, 2027—one week earlier than originally planned. The update, confirmed by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto on Wednesday, represents the second date change for the project.
“We are thrilled to bring this new date to fans and believe this slight adjustment will allow for a more polished cinematic experience,” Miyamoto said in a statement. Industry analysts note that moving up a release often signals confidence in post-production progress.

The Zelda film was first announced in November 2023 alongside a tentative 2026 release window. In early 2025, Nintendo pushed the date to May 7, 2027—now adjusted to late April. Miyamoto is co-producing with Avi Arad, known for his work on Marvel adaptations.
This marks Nintendo’s latest attempt to expand its gaming IP into live-action cinema, following the successful 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie (animated). The company has not yet revealed the director or cast.
What This Means
The new date positions the Zelda film to open in a less competitive spring window, avoiding crowded summer blockbuster season. “An April release could give it a strong box-office run before bigger franchises arrive in May,” said film analyst Rebecca Stone of Box Office Insights.
Fans may also interpret the earlier date as a sign that principal photography is on schedule. No official plot details have been released, but speculation centers on a direct adaptation of Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild. Nintendo remains tight-lipped.
“Every date change creates buzz, but this one suggests streamlined production,” noted gaming industry journalist Mark Tan. “It’s a positive indicator.” The film is now set for release alongside other Sony-distributed titles under the company’s partnership with Nintendo.
